Abstract

653,531. Laminated sheets. MALLABAR, H. J. Feb. 14, 1948, No. 4352. [Classes 96 and 140] A surface sheet for decorative laminated boards is made by coating paper, e.g. unfilled paper, with a white or coloured filler, brushing the coating to ensure uniformity and then impregnating the coated paper with a thermosetting resin, e.g. a urea-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde resin. The filler may be an inorganic substance, e.g. precipitated barium sulphate. Laminated boards are made by applying a surface sheet to a backing sheet (or sheets), of paper, wood, plywood, plasterboard, fibreboard, asbestos, &c. impregnated with a thermosetting resin and then bonding the sheets together using heat and pressure.
