Abstract
653,255. Educational appliance. MACKAY, F. A Sept. 25, 1947, No. 26018. [Class 146 (ii)] A device to aid in the teaching of English comprises a cardboard sheet 4 on which is printed columns of syllables, and a sliding device 1, adapted to slide across the sheet 4, on which is printed the initial consonant or consonants of words so that when the sliding device 1 is slid into juxtaposition with a column of syllables, words are formed having the same phonetic endings. Different pronunciations of the same vowel are shown by different columns and letters which are silent are shown in red. A number of subdivisions of words are suggested and combinations for word-building after the initial syllable.
