Abstract
652,567. Cable joints; sleeve couplings. SOC. ANON. DE TELECOMMUNICATIONS. Oct. 11, 1948, No. 26477. Convention date, July 2. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A joint for coaxial air-space conductors, comprises grooved members 7 secured on each conductor end and composite members 14, 141 having bent-over ends 15, 15<SP>1</SP> which engage in the grooves 19 of the members 7. The adjacent ends of the inner conductors 1 are secured in a channel member 10 provided with an elongated hole 11 through which the ends after being bent at right-angles to the member 10 are positioned. Lugs 12 on the member 10 are bent over on to the conductors 1 which are then soldered into the channel member. The grooved members 7 are slid over the ends of the outer conductors 2 which are belled out by a tool (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) (see Group XXII), to enter slots 8, 8<SP>1</SP> in the members and the assembly is secured together by soldering. The composite members are preferably formed of two interengaging semicylinders 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and their bent-over ends 15, 15<SP>1</SP> are soldered in the grooves. The armouring 3, 4 of the cables is also jointed by similar grooved members 5 and composite members 17, 17<SP>1</SP>. The grooved members are provided with more than one groove so that if the cables contract after the joint is broken down, allowance is made by placing the bentover ends of the composite members in different grooves from that in which they were originally. To prevent the breaking stress of the joint from exceeding that of the cables, the bentover ends may be weakened. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the joint is applicable generally to tubular members, and the member 10 can be used for joining aerial telephone wires. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
