Abstract
652,202. Vehicle frames. KOENIG, M., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 24, 1948, No. 33268. [Class 79 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] A vehicle such as a bus or coach has the body secured to the frame by means of a number of struts forming part of the frame, each strut comprising one or more flanges which are secured to a transverse frame member and on its opposite side one or more flanges engaging and connected to a pillar section of the body. Such an arrangement facilitates removal of the body from the frame. Fig. 3 shows a portion of the frame and Fig. 2 a cross section thereof with the body 24 in position. The frame is a braced open girder construction and includes a number of vertical struts 3. In the example shown, Fig. 4, each strut comprises a pair of inwardly directed flanges 9a, 9b, which are permanently secured to the ends of one of the transverse frame members shown in Fig. 2, and an outwardly directed flange 10, to which a body pillar 11 is secured. As shown, the pillar 11 is of hollow I section, the inside flange 14 being cut away where necessary to receive the flange 10. 13 is the outer panelling and 15 a covering strip. Fig. 6 shows one of the struts 3 secured to one end of a transverse frame member, the latter comprising an upper pair of channel members 5 and a lower pair 6, with diagonal cross bracing 7 of H section.
