651,997. Bottling. CHERRY-BURRELL CORPORATION. May 3, 1948, No. 12081. Convention date. Oct. 21, 1947. [Class 125(ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a bottling apparatus comprising filling heads depending from the bottom 2 of a milk &c. reservoir preferably maintained under partial vacuum, a vent tube 10 supported by a spider 13 in the outlet aperture extends through the head to the air space and its top is surmounted by a closure 32 which is lifted by an actuator 33 adapted to be pushed up by guides 31 of a liquid supply tube 24 as this rises away from a valve plug 22 at the bottom of the vent tube upon engagement of a bottle with a seal element 29. A resilient bellows 25 is maintained under slight compression between the reservoir bottom and a nesting groove 28 in tube 24, and returns the tube to its seating position on plug 22 when the filled bottle is lowered. Actuator 33 may be replaced by a tube telescoped over the vent tube or a heavy bar with laterally extending closure bracket and apertured guide arms. In place of the bellows a spring 44 may be compressed between stationary and movable parts 43, 42, of the supply tube and the vent tube closure carried by a spring clip 48 which has apertured branches of a lower lug 49 through which the tube passes. The actuator may include a weighted cap holder to facilitate lowering.
