Abstract
651,732. Optical systems. SOC. GENERALE D'OPTIQUE, SOC. ANON. DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS HUET ET CIE ET J. FLAMMARION. Jan. 20, 1948, No. 1701. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1947. [Class 97 (i)] A prism is fastened into an optical instrument by a blade secured to a holder in the instrument and pressing the prism against a seating surface of the holder, the prism being formed with a groove on that surface which is engaged by the blade and the latter having a slot registering with but extending obliquely of the groove, the blade and prism being rigidly united by a small piece of metal run or pressed into said slot and groove. As shown, the prism P rests in a seating d the same width as the prism but slightly longer to permit adjustment, and is held by engagement of a flexible blade f with the truncated edge e of the prism. The edge e has a longitudinal groove j, which may be of dovetail shape and which registers with a transverse slot i in the blade f. Prism and blade are locked together by pouring a suitable molten metal alloy into the slot i and groove j, by melting such an alloy in situ or by pressing the metal into place. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a modification in which the prism is grooved at one side adjacent a groove in the mounting, and both grooves filled with metal to lock the prism. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
