Abstract
651,730. Extruding spaghetti, macaroni, &c. FRANCISCI, J. DE. Jan. 6, 1948, No. 402. [Class 87 (ii)] Edible paste is fed through an inlet 50 into a bore 11 from which it is forced, by a screw 28, through ports 15 into a chamber 13, and then through dies 22. The extruded paste is cut into lengths by one or more,knives 105 mounted on a continuously or intermittently moving horizontal conveyer chain 80. The speeds of the conveyer and the screw may be varied. The volumetric capacity of the screw decreases away from the inlet, to provide a constant pressure on the paste throughout the extrusion head. Modified forms of screws are illustrated in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 (not shown). One end of the chamber 10 may be removable to allow the screw to be removed. Clearance spaces 56 are provided at the ends of the screws. The paste is fed to the chamber under a constant pressure by a screw, Fig. 4 (not shown), or by hydraulic pressure.
