Abstract

651,641. Circular looms. SAINT FRERES. Jan. 2, 1948, No. 143. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1947. [Class 142(ii)] Spiked wheels which beat-up the weft in a circular loom rotate at a higher speed than the shuttles. The number of spiked wheels exceeds the number of shuttles. A shuttle 1 travels on a shuttle race 2 and lays a weft thread which is beaten-up by spiked wheels 4. The wheels 4 are mounted on a revolving ring 6, and some wheels rotate by reason of their pressure on the warp threads as the ring 6 revolves, while others are positively rotated. The positively rotated wheels ensure that the warp threads maintain their correct radial positions. The fabric is prevented from slipping back after the beat-up by spikes 7 on the inside of the tube 3. The spikes may be secured to a backing of webbing, leather or india rubber.
