Abstract
651,096. Magnetic separators. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd., DAVIS, C. W. V., and WESTWOOD, H. W. Oct. 27, 1948, No. 27953. [Class 72] In a magnetic separator for the removal of magnetic solids from liquids and having a rotary magnetic member, means are provided for removing excess liquid from the magnetic particles adhering to the magnetic member before and/or after their removal from the member. As shown, applied to a machine for separating magnetic metallic particles from a cutting fluid., a tapered roller 11, mounted in adjustable brackets 13, squeezes excess cutting fluid from the particles adhering to a rotary magnetic member 1. A squeegee comprising a flat piece of rubber having slits along its edge may be used instead of the roller. The particles may then be removed from the member by a scraper 16 and fall on to a mesh 19 through which excess fluid drains and is guided to the clean fluid outlet of the machine by a felt 20. The particles may be finally deposited in a fine mesh basket which allows of further draining, Fig 8 (not shown). Specification 598,295 is referred to.
