Abstract
650,670. Walls. DOTREMONT, P. April 10, 1946, Nos. 11086, 11087, 11088 and 11089. Convention dates, July 4, 1945, Sept. 21, 1945, Dec. 11, 1945 and Sept. 25, 1945. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] A wall comprises a rigid frame of uprights connected by horizontal round bars or tubes from which vertical flush rectangular cover plates hang by means of hooks at the upper part of their rear face; each plate has a rabbet along at least one side edge to accommodate either the edge of an adjacent plate or intermediate sealing means, and a rabbet along at least part of a horizontal edge to accommodate the horizontal edge of an adjacent plate or a lug projecting therefrom. The slabs 1, of concrete (e.g. reinforced or vibrated), terra-cotta, ceramic, glass, metal, artificial or natural stone, plaster and wood wool (for internal surfacing) &c. may be secured to separately formed hooks, or, as shown, may be moulded with two or more integral bosses 3, 4 having undersides grooved to hook on to tubes 8 anchored, or resting freely, in notches or holes in the uprights; the vertical joints may be continuous or not; if the edges overlap one another (Fig. 10), the joints, with or without a filler, may alternate in aspect to facilitate replacement, or may be all identically arranged, e.g. the tops and left-hand edges being convex and overlapped by strips extending from the bottoms and right-hand edges of adjacent slabs whereby any water on the inner faces may flow outwards through the horizontal joints; the latter may be stabilized by lugs projecting from upper slabs against the edges of, or into recesses in, lower slabs or by wood, concrete &c. pegs 11 driven through tapered holes defined by straps 9. The framework uprights may be of ferro-concrete or wood, or each may comprise two T-irons arranged back to back with their webs longitudinally of the wall, or a single member of channel form 20 (Fig. 15) or of double channel Z-form. Intermediate overlapping elements engaging rabbets 2 in adjacent slabs, or 22 in a corner member 21, may comprise laths 16 supported on the webs of the channels 20 and each having a concave, grooved &c. face 19 covered with a deformable or plastic layer 18. Slabs may be mounted on both sides of the uprights for cavity walls, or two or more sets of uprights may be provided, linked or not by cross-ties. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of dowels to interlock the horizontal slab joints, without rabbets; perforated slabs are also referred to. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
