Abstract
650,206. Steering gear. ROVER CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1948, No. 30892. [Class 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a vehicle having independently sprung steering wheels carried by upper and lower links whose pivots are rubber bushes, the slight leaning out of the wheel which occurs during cornering owing to " give " in the rubber bushes is rendered ineffective on steering movements by arranging that the swivel connection between the steering arm and its operating rod is located in or near a horizontal plane passing through the neutral point on the wheel carrier, i.e. that point about which the wheel turns when leaning out. As shown, the wheel is journalled on a stub-axle g mounted on a swivel pin held in the wheelcarrier f, which is mounted on upper and lower links a, b. The pivots e and d at each end of the links are rubber bushed, or the like. When cornering, the lateral side thrust causes the wheel carrier to rotate slightly, so that the wheel leans outwardly of the curve. The swivel connection p between the steering arm o and its operating rod q is arranged on the same horizontal level as the point about which the wheel carrier f rotates.
