Abstract

The di-n-butyl ester of (ethyl) (1-methyl-n-butyl) malonic acid is made from di-n-butyl malonate by 1-methylbutylation, followed by ethylation. The product may be condensed with urea or thiourea. Examples describe the reaction of di-n-butyl malonate with 1-methyl-n-butyl bromide, followed by ethylation of the product with diethyl sulphate or ethyl bromide.
