Abstract

648,187. Artificial teeth. MYERSON, S. Dec. 11, 1948, No. 32093. [Class 81(ii)] An artificial tooth is formed of rigid material and is provided with a substantial number of intercommunicating cells which are filled with a hardened material such as an artificial resin. The rigid material may be a ceramic such as porcelain. In one application, Fig. 2, an upper incisor made of porcelain 15 has the upper and lingual parts made cellular by the introduction of comminuted material which may be removed by subsequent burning or dissolving, such as cork or powdered synthetic resin. The cells, which may vary between .005 in. and .015 in. in diameter, are subsequently filled by injection of an artificial resin such as methyl methacrylate. When such a tooth is later affixed to a plate of synthetic resin the resinous material in the root of the tooth unites homogeneously with the material of the plate and forms a rigid whole without the need for pins. In the embodiment shown the tooth is provided with translucent enamel layer 14 and the cellular formation is extended down to adjacent the lower edge to influence the colour effect. The invention may also be applied at the occlusal surface of a tooth to influence its hardness, and a cellular area may also be applied between the body of a tooth and the enamel layer to vary the visual characteristics. Specifications 505,063 and 545,026, [Group II], are referred to.
