Abstract
648,057. Circulating furnace atmospheres. STORDY ENGINEERING Ltd., and STORDY, J. J. Nov. 16, 1948, No. 29687. [Class 51(ii)] In a continuous tunnel furnace for the annealing of aluminium and other metal sheets a heating chamber 26 at each end equipped with removable electric heating elements and disposed on the pressure side of a fan 29 supplies heated air through ducts 25 and below zig-zag baffles 32 disposed over an endless conveyer 6 which transfers the sheets from a feeding conveyer 13 to a third conveyer 19 in a cooling chamber 20, the re-circulated air passing over the baffles 32 from the centre of the furnace to a duct 30 on the suction side of said fan 29. Each heating chamber 26 has a removable cover 27 giving access thereto or it may be removed and replaced as 'a complete unit. The conveyer 6 comprises a series of wires disposed side by side between grooved rollers or multiple pulleys 7 and 8, the latter being driven by a motor 10 which also drives through a shaft 17 and bevel gearing 16 a roller or multiple pulley 14 of the feeding conveyer 13 the strands of which are disposed alternately between the strands of the conveyer 6 where the two conveyers overlap. -
