[Class 106 (i)] Apparatus for counting sheets of paper comprising a stylus which is moved across the adjacent edges of consecutive sheets to induce vibrations adapted to operate a registering device through an electric circuit, is characterized in that a piezo-electric crystal is connected to the stylus and in circuit with an electronic amplifier and a relay-operated counter. A stylus 17 is mounted in a limb 16 of a cruciform member 13 mounted in an insulated block 15, Fig. 3 (not shown), within an inner casing 7 separated from an outer casing 6 by sponge rubber or other packing 8. A piezo-electric crystal 9 lies in the opposite bifurcated limb 14 of the member 13 and is connected by leads 10, 11 in circuit with an electronic amplifier connected to a counter operated by an electric relay. The Provisional Specification also describes embodiments wherein the crystal is mounted on the underside of a table upon which the sheets are fanned out, a stylus being drawn across them to cause vibrations which, through their action on the crystal, are counted. Alternatively the table is inclined and the sheets drop successively thereon and so cause vibrations of the table which are counted as before.
