Abstract

647,380. Rivets. GUEST, KEEN & NETTLEFOLDS (MIDLANDS), Ltd. Sept. 10, 1948, No. 23797. [Class 89(i)] [Also in Group VII] A tubular rivet for use where access car only be had to one side, comprises a bush 10 externally flanged at 12 anc tapered at 14 to a neck 15 of reducec thickness and ending in a conical head 16 tapped at 18. The rivet is set by a tool 21 having a screwed extension 22 to en gage the thread 18 and a conical surface 24 leading to a shoulder 23. On continued rotation of the tool the part 14 collapses forming an inner flange 26, the rivet then shears at 15 and the head 16 is drawn into the part 10 completing the formation of the flange and expanding the part 10 into the hole in the plates. Finally the sheared edge of the head 16 is flanged by the surface 24 into the countersink 25.
