Abstract
A vendible product undergoing structural deterioration due to infestation with insect and like pests is preserved by treatment with a halogenated thiophene (other than tetrachlorothiophene dichloride). Specified compounds are the monochlorothiophenes, 2, 5-, 2, 3-, and 2, 4-chlorothiophene, 2, 3, 4- and 2, 3. 5-trichlorothiophene, 2, 3, 4, 5-tetrachlorothiophene and the bromine and iodine analogues of these compounds. The compounds are preferably applied as fumigants more particularly in admixture with a more volatile vehicle such as carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulphide, dichloroethane and dichloroethyl ether. The products treated include grain, flour and textile fabrics. The compounds may also be applied as emulsions, e.g. in a mixture of milk and water. Specification 641,094 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the use of thiophene as an added volatile vehicle. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Grain and seeds are preserved from deterioration due to infestation with insect and like pests by treatment with a halogenated thiophene (other than tetrachlorothiophene dichloride). Specified compounds are the monochlorothiophenes, 2, 5-, 2, 3-, and 2, 4-dichlorothiophene, 2, 3, 4- and 2, 3, 5-trichlorothiophene, 2, 3, 4, 5-tetrachlorothiophene and the bromine and iodine analogues of these compounds.
