644,670. Converting. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. April 29, 1948, No. 11766. Convention date, May 2, 1947. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a converter wherein the two halves 21, 22 of the primary of a transformer are alternately energized by a battery 24 through " interrupter " contacts 14, 16 by the vibration of a reed 10 maintained in vibration by a driving coil 12 and driving contacts 15, a resistance 30 is connected between the contacts 15 and 16. This resistance serves to prevent arcing at the contacts 15 since it diverts energy through the primary winding 22. It also serves to produce a more speedy de-energiza. tion of the coil since when the contacts 14 are engaged and the winding 21 is energized, this induces a current of opposite polarity in the circuit 22, 27, 12, 30, 26. The resistance 30 may take the form of a resistance spacer mounted side by side with the contact springs and insulating spacers of a contact-spring pile up, Fig. 2 (not shown).
