Abstract

[Class 99(i)] ] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXVI] A releasable connector comprises endpieces 10; 11 having semi-cylindrical extentions 12, 14 provided with, teeth 17; which, when the extensions overlap, engage with each other, and a helical spring 18 which is manipulated by aslidable and rotatable collar 20, to prevent the separation of the extensions. One end of the spring which fits closely round the extensions is secured to a flange 19 on the end-piece 10 at 23 and at the other end is fastened in the collar so that in order to release the extensions the collar is rotated contrarily to the convolutions of the spring thereby permitting the collar to be slid away from a flange 21 on the end-piece 11 to contract the spring. The collar then surrounds the whole spring closely and may have the end near the flange 19 dimensioned to engage the latter within its embrace, thereby preventing the spring expanding. To ensure the correct overlap of the extensions, the teeth may have an odd configuration.
