Abstract
644,320. Clocks. GOLDBERG, L. P. S.. June 18, 1947, Nos. 16127 and 16128. Convention dates, June 19, 1946, and April 28, 1947. [Class 139] An alarm clock of the type in which a plurality of alarm setting means are arranged round the dial is characterised in that each of the setting means is carried and acted upon by a spring strip or plate tending to keep said means in an inoperative position. The push pieces B carried by plate springs L, Figs. 1, 2, are arranged round the dial in positions corresponding to the " quarter hours " and the inner ends are normally cut out of the path of an arm A rotating synchronously with the hour hand. If, however, a push piece B is depressed until its shoulder 6 latches on the plate 5 its inner end will, at the appropriate time, cause the arm A to pivot from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2. The end A<SP>11</SP> of the arm A thereupon moves a locking member D axially to free a lever C on a spindle R. At the same instant the lower end of a lever F, Fig. 4, also mounted on the spindle R is urged by a spring r into a recess of the rotating cam G causing the upper end f to free the hammer M, M<SP>1</SP>, which is thereupon vibrated by a wheel J of the alarm train. A drum I, Figs. 5 and 5a, of the alarm mechanism carries a projection K which meets an edge h<SP>6</SP> of one arm of a U-shaped lever H, mounted coaxially with the lever F, and rocks said lever counter-clockwise so that an extension S of its other arm comes into the path of a projection N on the wheel J. The alarm therefore " rings until the wheel J is stopped by the projection N meeting the extension S. During the continued rotation of the cam wheel G the lever F is pushed back to its initial position and a finger T thereon, Fig. 8, resets the lever H. The resultant return movement of the lever C allows the arm A to be returned by a spring X to reset the member D to the position shown in Fig. 1. In another embodiment, Fig. 10, the stopping lever H is dispensed with and the lever F' co-operates directly with the wheel J. Normally the wheel J is arrested by the engagement of a nose S, of the lever F' with a stop N' on the wheel J. When, however, the lever C is freed, as described above, and the foot f of the lever F' enters a recess of the cam G the stop N<SP>1</SP> is freed and the wheel J rotates giving the " alarm " until a second stop N on the wheel J meets the extension S<SP>1</SP>. During the continued rotation of the cam G the lever F<SP>1</SP> is reset releasing the stop N and allowing a second short " alarm" until the stop N<SP>1</SP> abuts the extension S<SP>1</SP> again. The spring plates L of the push pieces B may be carried by one or several central portions L<SP>1</SP>, Fig, 14, or may be separate individual spring angled plates 7, 7a, Fig. 17, and the push pieces B can be formed of two parts screwed together. Specification 589,122 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the construction of the hammer M, M, Fig. 16 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
