Abstract
Regenerated protein textile fibres are treated with an aqueous solution containing epichlorohydrin and a small proportion of a strong electrolyte and having a pH value between 1.5 and 9.5, at a temperature above 60 DEG C. but below the boiling point of the solution in order to give improved abrasion resistance and/or give a permanent weight increase. Preferred conditions include the use of a temperature range of 80-95 DEG C., pH ranges of 1.5-3 and 8-9.5, and an electrolyte such as borax, sodium or potassium chloride, or hydrochloric or sulphuric acid. Specification 463,043 is referred to.ALSO:Protein textile fibres, e.g. wool, silk, and regenerated protein fibres, are treated with an aqueous solution containing epichlorohydrin and a small proportion of a strong electrolyte, and having a pH between 1.5 and 9.5, at a temperature above 60 DEG C. but below the boiling point of the solution. The effect of the treatment is to increase the dye-fastness to water and washings, and the treatment may be applied before, during, or after the dyeing. It may also impart improved abrasion resistance and/or a permanent increase in weight. The preferred conditions include the use of a temperature range of 80-95 DEG C., and pH ranges of 1.5-3 and 8-9.5. The electrolyte, the concentration of which should not exceed 1 per cent, may be borax, sodium or potassium chloride, or hydrochloric or sulphuric acid. Specification 463,043 is referred to.
