Abstract
643,993. Saw-tooth generating circuits. MURPHY RADIO, Ltd., and FAIRHURST, H. A. Jan. 10, 1947, No. 926. [Class 40 (vi)] In a circuit for generating a deflecting magnetic field, a pentode 1 is arranged with its anode coupled by a step-down transformer 2, 4 to the screen grid, a correcting voltage being supplied to the suppressor grid from the screen. The flux variation in the transformer may be used to deflect a C.R. tube beam directly by making a suitable gap in the core, or deflecting coils associated with the tube may be connected to a tertiary winding on the transformer. Frequency and amplitude control are respectively effected by varying a resistor 13 in the screen circuit, which determines the rate of change of screen current during the scan, and the mean anode voltage. Distortion due to the impracticability of making the transformer winding reactances high compared with their reactances at frame frequency is compensated for by feeding a potential proportional to the integral of the screen current derived from the potentials across potentiometer 15 to the suppressor grid, producing compensation in the manner described in Specification 511,600. As this method of linearizing is not effective at the beginning of the scan a resistor 17 and capacitor 18 are also connected in the suppresor grid circuit so as to linearize this part of the scan. Synchronizing pulses are applied to the control grid of the valve,
