[Class 40 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] Swarf collecting means for use in sound recording apparatus in which a sound groove is cut in a rotating record disc, is provided in the form of a circular disc or annulus which is mounted for rotation and spans at least part of the recording surface, part of the operative surface of the disc or annulus being in contact with the record disc or the turntable surface. Fig. 1 shows part of a sound recording apparatus including a cutter head 4 driven by normal means. A fibrous member 10 is fixed in holder 11 which is rotatable and slidable on a spindle 17 which is connected through a ball joint to the end of an arm 20. Arm 20 is pivoted to a fixed support 18, so that the arm and fibrous member may be swung vertically to be clear of the record and a lever 27 by engaging screw 30, enables the arm to be supported in the upper position. Adjustment of screw 30 which also engages lever 27 in the lower position, enables the height of the member 10 above the record to be adjusted. The direction of the spindle 17 is adjusted to be a small angle from the vertical, so that the edge of the member 10 is in contact with the record or turntable surface whereby the member is rotated by friction during operation. Screw 26 enables the ball joint to be clamped, so fixing the position of spindle 17. Fig. 4 shows the construction and mounting of the fibrous member and holder. The felt pad 10 in the form of an annulus, is mounted by an adhesive or other means in holder 11. Alternatively, the pad may be in the form of a circular disc. In operation, the light swarf strip is collected by the rotating pad and gathers in the centre space of the annulus, assisted by the action of pegs 32.
