[Class 37] A vacuum condenser has a cylindrical glass casing 1 containing cylindrical electrodes 4 and 6 secured to metal end discs 2 and 3, and an end cap 18 through which pass heater filament leads 20, 21 and 22. A " getter " material such as zirconium is deposited on the filaments 25 and 26, and may similarly be arranged on electrodes 4 and 6 to absorb, when hot, the deleterious gases produced by a short circuit occurring between the electrodes. The filaments may be in circuit continuously or heated following a short circuit. The end disc 2 has a corona shield 5 secured thereto. Specification 513,636 is referred to.
