Abstract
641,084. Velocity-modulated tubes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Feb. 12, 1947, No. 4061. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] In a velocity modulation device for producing ultra-high-frequency oscillations, in which the electron beam passes axially of a coaxial line cavity resonator 6 through a straight cylindrical drift tube 7 extending between buncher and catcher gaps 4, 5, the inner hollow conductor 10 of the resonator, is arched outwardly with respect to the longitudinal direction of the drift space, in such manner that its length, determining the length of the feed-back path between the catcher and buncher gaps, measured along the outside, in every axial cross-section is appreciably longer than the axial length of the drift space. It may, for example be approximately three times the length of the drift space. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, states that the drift tube 7 may be absent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
