Abstract
640,693. Control systems for electric lighting. FURSE & CO., Ltd., W. J. March 3, 1945, No. 5350. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XV, XVIII and XX] A control apparatus for a colour lighting system comprises a twomotion selector, a transmitter and a modifying means, one motion of the selector choosing the desired colour and/or intensity of light and the other motion thereof displacing movable means in the transmitter, displacement of the movable means producing a corresponding alteration in the modifying means, and alteration in the modifying means producing the desired modification of the colour and/or intensity of the light. The apparatus may control one or more light sources and, where a plurality of light sources is controlled, one modifying means is associated with each light source, the one selector causing alteration in every modifying means. In the apparatus of Figs. 1, 4 and 6, the two-motion selector is a disc 1 which is slidably mounted on shaft 11. The two motions of the disc are rotation about the shaft and movement along the shaft. The apparatus controls four light sources and accordingly the four modifying means are variable resistances 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, adjustable by means of contact arms 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d respectively (generally represented by 7 in Fig. 1. Two transmitters are shown, each controlling two light sources. In one transmitter, movable pins 3a, 3<SP>1</SP>a carry racks which engage pinion 4a on shaft 5a, while movable pins 3b, 3<SP>1</SP>b carry racks which engage pinion 4b on shaft 5b. Similarly in the other transmitter, movable pins 3c, 3<SP>1</SP>c carry racks which engage pinion 4c on shaft 5c, while movable pins 3d, 3<SP>1</SP>d carry racks which engage pinion 4d on shaft 5d. Disc 1 carries a series of pins 2 in four concentric circles. These pins, on movement of disc 1 along shaft 11, cause movement of pins 3. The apparatus is operated by first turning pointer 9 to the desired colour and/or intensity indicated on scale 10, thereby rotating shaft 11, key arm 12 and disc 1. Thereupon lever 15 is pulled, thereby rotating shaft 18 and quadrant 14 and moving disc 1 along shaft 11.
