Abstract
Polymeric p-phenylene ethylene, prepared by the pyrolysis of p-xylene, is plasticized by aromatic hydrocarbons having a B.P. above 200 DEG C., e.g. acenaphthene, anthracene, diphenyl and naphthalene, to give film- and filament-forming, coating or moulding compositions. The plasticizers may be incorporated by heat, or by use of a low boiling solvent, e.g. ethanol, or mechanically, e.g. using an internal mixer, multiroll mill or calender.
