Abstract

In a cyclic process for the production of dicalcium phosphate wherein phosphate rock is treated with phosphoric acid and the mixture is heated to precipitate dicalcium phosphate and wherein the mother liquor is used, with fresh phosphoric acid, for treating more rock, the amount of acid added, either free or as monocalcium phosphate, is such as to give in relation to the rock phosphate a molecular ratio P2O5 : CaO in the added material of about 0.5, and the total molecular ratio P2O5 : CaO in the reaction mixture prior to the separation of the dicalcium phosphate is maintained at less than 1.3. The temperature is preferably maintained near the boiling point. Examples of the process are given.
