639,770. Imitation fuel. ELEXCEL, Ltd. Dec. 27, 1947, No. 28312/49. Divided out of 639,750. [Class 126] Imitation fuel comprises textile material shaped to resemble unburnt coal separated by semi-transparent interstices, the opaque parts being formed by metal foil attached inside the textile material. Individual former members 17 are each provided with a pair of pins 13 interconnected by a metal plate 14. The pins 13 may be fitted into tubular supports 12 mounted on a baseplate 10 which is provided with a vertical backplate 11 having an irregular upper edge. Each former 17 is used for shaping a part of the imitation fuel to resemble a piece of coal and is covered with metal foil which forms an opaque lining for these parts. A single or double sheet of fabric is placed over the whole jig and pressed down between the formers, to give a re-entrant effect if desired, the sheet of fabric being secured at the edges by a rigid wire squeezed in a U-section metal strip 19 which is clamped to the baseplate by levers 20. A sheet of woven glass may be placed over this. The whole fabric is then treated with glue which may be coloured and after subjecting to preliminary baking black paint is applied over which glue and coal dust may be painted, the effect of ash being provided by asbestos fibre. When finally baked the imitation fuel and formers 17 are lifted from the baseplate and the formers 17 removed separately. Specification 639,750 is referred to.
