639,233. Cathode - ray oscillographs. HIGHAM, E. H., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1947, No. 29617. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVIII and XL (c)] Apparatus for simultaneously displaying several (as shown four) variables on a cathoderay oscillograph CRT comprises means for applying a fast time base to the Y-plates and a slow time base to the X-plates of the tube, the beam of the tube being modulated by an impulse derived from the voltage to be indicated and the fast time base so that the spot is only visible four times in each vertical trace (due to the fast time base), the succession of spots producing four substantially horizontal lines which deviate from the horizontal by an amount dependent on the voltages being measured. For each variable, the voltage and the fast time base are applied to the grids of valves V1, V3 of a comparator circuit, Fig. 3, whereby V1 is overbiassed until the value of the falling voltage, of the fast time base is reduced to meet the grid voltage of V1 and allow it to conduct, when a voltage is sent to V5, differentiated after amplification and fed to the grid of the cathode-ray tube.
