Abstract

4 : 41 - bis - [2 - chloro- or 2 - p - acetylaminoanilino - 4 - ethanolamino- or 4 - diethanolamino - 1 : 3 : 5 - triazyl - (6)] - diaminostilbene - 2 : 21-disulphonic acids of the formula <FORM:0637769/IV (b)/1> where R1 is chlorine or p-acetylaminoanilino and R2 is ethanolamino or diethanolamino, or salts thereof, are made by p reacting two mols. of cyanuric chloride with one of 4 : 41-diaminostilbene-2 : 21-disulphonic acid and two of mono- or di-ethanolamine and, where the residual chlorine groups are to be replaced by the p-acetylaminoanilino groups, also with two mols. of p-aminoacetanilide. The products are used in whitening paper.
