Abstract

<PICT:0636926/IV (a)/1> Apparatus for the treatment of artificial filament yarns with a fluid under pressure during their passage from one point to another, comprises a substantially closed treatment chamber with an outlet for the yarn and a common inlet for the yarn and the fluid, the inlet comprising a tube which diverges towards the treatment chamber and through which the fluid passes, and means for leading the yarn into the diverging tube without previously bringing it into contact with the fluid. The apparatus may be used for stretching artificial yarns while under the influence of a softening fluid, e.g. wet steam under pressure. Thermoplastic yarns such as yarns having a basis of a cellulose derivative for example an organic acid ester of cellulose such as cellulose acetate formate, propionate, butyrate or acetate-propionate, or a cellulose ether such as methyl, ethyl or benzyl cellulose; or having a basis of a linear synthetic polymer of high molecular weight such as a polyamide, or a condensation product of a diketene with a compound such as a diamine or glycol are specified. Regenerated or reconstituted cellulose yarn, e.g. that obtained by saponifying cellulose ester yarn may also be treated. In the drawing, the apparatus used consists of a small chamber 9 into which the treating fluid is first introduced, separated by a plug 7 from a large chamber 11 in which the yarn is stretched. The end of chamber 11 is closed by a tapering plug 13 having an orifice 14. Plug 7 is provided with an opening 15 in which is inserted an injector device, generally indicated by 16, which comprises a tube 17 into which extends a finer tube 24 connected with a tapered input orifice 23. The tube 17 is sharply tapered inwardly at its input end 18 and then gently tapered outwardly as at 19. In operation, a yarn 33 is threaded through the input orifice 23, injector device 16 and output orifice 14. The yarn is pulled into chamber 11 by the action of the fluid which, after entering chamber 9 by conduit 26, passes through the injector device 16, excess fluid escaping through auxiliary orifice 32.ALSO:<PICT:0636926/IV (c)/1> Apparatus for the treatment of yarns with a fluid under pressure during their passage from one point to another, comprises a substantially closed treatment chamber with an outlet for the yarn and a common inlet for the yarn and the fluid, the inlet comprising a tube which diverges towards the treatment chamber and through which the fluid passes, and means for leading the yarn into the diverging tube without previously bringing it into contact with the fluid.
