[Class 16] [Also in Group XVI] A printing machine which is especially applicable for printing sales slips in an autographic register, is arranged so that a pivoted printing member 65 is adapted to support a name plate 75 supplied by a customer, and the machine will only operate if the correct name plate is inserted. The printing- machine as a whole is attached to a writing tablet 34, Fig. 5, and by removing the writing-tablet of an autographic register of known kind, the mechanism as a whole can be attached to the register. The record strips S are fed over the tablet 34 below a writing aperture formed in the pivoted top portion 25b of the machine casing, and an inked ribbon 36 is led from a roll 37 transversely between two sheets S, and remains in position until a new surface is required, when the ribbon is pulled through by hand and the worn ribbon discarded. The member 65 is formed with channels to receive lugs on printing-plates to print fixed data, and with lugs 72, 73, Fig. 8 to receive the nameplate 75 which is formed with a series of notches 200, 200A, 200B, &c., Fig. 1, to enable the operator to check the correctness of the plate visually, and one notch 200F co-operates with a pin 202 on the member 65 which permits only authorised plates to make an impression since the plate 65 cannot be moved to printing position if the plate extends beyond normal position. The plate 65 is pivoted to its supporting brackets by eccentrically mounted screws 70, and when moved down into printing position by hand operation of an extension 79 it is locked in position by spring catches 94, 95 also mounted on eccentric screws 101. Adjustment of the screws 70, 101 permits printing of a variable number of copies at a time. The impression member is a roller 110 mounted on posts 111, 112 carried by a pivoted arm 50 having an operating extension 109 which passes through a slot in the front of the casing. After the roller 110 has pressed the slips S and ink ribbons against the type members, it acts on a bumper 130 which releases the catches 94, 95, and a spring 105 raises the type member 65 out of the path of the roller 110 as it is returned to its initial position and so avoids shadow printing.
