636,075. Electrical prospecting. SOC. DE PROSPECTION ELECTRIQUE PROCEDES SCHLUMBERGER. Oct. 29, 1947, No. 28887. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1946. [Class 37] Electrical well-logging apparatus, for determining the boundaries of electrically-resistive earth formations through which the borehole has passed, comprises two pairs of electrodes A, B and A<1>, B<1> employed in a symmetrical array about a reference electrode M. Each pair of electrodes is approximately in vertical symmetry about the reference electrode, one pair being at a greater distance from this electrode than the other pair. The electrodes in each pair are electrically connected together and the two pairs are connected to the respective terminals of a source of electrical energy 13, whilst the reference electrode may be connected to one terminal of a circuit including electrical recording means 15, the other terminal being grounded at the surface 16. The source of electrical energy and the recording means may be interchanged. In a modified form, several measuring circuits, each consisting of two pairs of electrodes, are symmetrically disposed at varying distances about an electrode of a current-emitting circuit.
