Abstract

635,885. Aircraft undercarriages. ELECTRO - HYDRAULICS, Ltd., NEILSON, C. B. V., and HOARE, R. G. May 31, 1948, No. 13606. [Class 4] A bogie-type undercarriage is provided with means, such as an auxiliary shockabsorber 6, arranged to bias the bogie 3 into a position in which only the rear wheel or wheels 2 engage the ground at the moment of contact, such a construction reducing the drag load on the undercarriage owing to the fact that only the rear wheel or wheels are set into rotation upon the initial ground engagement. As shown, the shock-absorber 6 may be of the compression type and connected to the rear end of the bogie frame 3, or it may be of the tension type in which case it is connected to the front of the bogie frame, or between the rear of the frame and a downward extension of the undercarriage leg 5.
