Abstract

635,605. Actuation of switches; electromagnetic relays; control of motors. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Oct. 8, 1947, No. 27074. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1946. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v)] A motor-driven selector switch for the remote control of electrical installations, has a tuned reed relay which is effective to start the motor and to control the subsequent switching operations when energized by audio-frequency control impulses. The relay is mounted on a shaft 2 driven through suitable gearing by a motor 1, and has a permanent magnet 4, coil 5, and a tuned reed 6. The selector comprises a number of switch units, each unit having contacts 22, which may be opened or closed by moving a projection 18 or 19 on a gear-wheel 17 or 16 respectively. On the receipt of a first control impulse, the reed 6 vibrates and raises a pivoted lever 8 to its upper position, where it is latched by a latch member 11. A striker 9 prevents operation due to short interference impulses. In its raised position, lever 8 closes contacts 12 to energize the motor 1, which commences to turn the relay. As the shaft turns, a lever 15 fixed to the shaft releases contacts 14 allowing them to close, so that the motor remains energized until it has driven the shaft through one revolution when the lever 15 reopens the contacts 14. After the contacts 14 have closed, the contacts 12 are opened as the lever 8 turns, and the lever 8 is then released and returns to its lower position when the latch 11 strikes the first of a number of spring stop members 13. A subsequent control impulse raises the lever 8 so that it may strike the projection 18 or 19 of the selected switch unit to open or close the switch unit contacts 22. After this switching operation the latch 11 strikes a spring stop 13 and the lever 8 returns to its lower position.
