Abstract
634,573. Knitting-machines. CHARNWOOD ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., SIDDALL, R., PURCHASE, G. W., and HARRIS, D. J. Oct. 29, 1947, No. 32145/46. [Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] A coupling for transmitting the drive from the cylinder of a circular machine, during rotary knitting, to the take-up mechanism, comprises a spring 9 coiled about a drive-shaft 1 and fixed to the shaft at one end, the other end engaging a member 16, rotatable about the shaft and which is provided with a dog 26 engageable with a dog 22 on an intermediate drive-member 18. The member 18 is provided with a second dog 23 engageable with a dog 24 on a second similar intermediate drive-member 19 also provided with a second dog 25 adapted to engage a dog 27 on a member 17 which transmits the motion imparted to it to the take-up mechanism. During reciprocatory knitting the dogs reciprocate and the take-up mechanism is not operated. On recommencing rotary knitting the spring 9 absorbs the shock occurring when the dogs are brought into engagement. Alternatively, the members 16, 17 may be secured to separate coaxial shafts and the dogs formed of resilient material to absorb the shock created when they interengage on commencing rotary knitting.
