633,806. Heating water. WHITAKER, A. Nov. 26, 1947, No. 31299. [Class 64(i)] [Also, in Group XXIX] Two or more combustion-heated water heaters (only one of which is shown) are each provided with a flue 4 connected to a common flue 6 having draught-inducing means, e.g. a fan 5, and the supply of fuel to each heater is controlled by two devices, e.g. diaphragms 16, 13, one responsive to the pressure changes in the individual flue 4 or common flue 6, due to the draughtinducing means, and the other responsive to a predetermined rate of water flow through the heater. The gas valve 15 operated by the diaphragms is closed unless there is sufficient water flow in the pipe 9 and sufficient suction in the flue 4. A toggle 22, 23 through which motion of the diaphragm 13 is transmitted to the valve 15 is broken by the diaphragm 16 through a rod 20 and link 21 when the suction in the flue is insufficient. A valve in the inlet of the flue 4 may be operated by the diaphragm 13 or an additional similarly arranged diaphragm. The suction-operated diaphragm may actuate the gas valve through an electric switch and solenoid.
