Abstract
633,503. Magnetrons. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. May 20, 1947, No. 13538. Convention date, June 21, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Groups XL (b) and XL (c)] A wave-guide coupling device comprises a halfwave cavity resonator with a resonant slot in one end wall and a non- resonant aperture in the other. A rectangular wave-guide formed in a cylindrical block 15 is coupled to a slot 22 in the anode block 10 of a magnetron by a half wave resonant cavity 27 formed in a block 14 which fits into a bore in the anode block 10. The resonator 27 is tightly coupled to the magnetron slot 22 through a resonant slot 21 in the end wall 20 of the resonator 27 which acts as a frequency stabilizing cavity for the magnetron. The output wave-guide is loosely coupled to the resonator 27 by a non-resonant circular aperture 24. This loose coupling improves the Q of the resonator and reduces " pulling " of the magnetron frequency. Vacuum-tight seals are provided between the anode block 10 and the resonator block 14 and between the block 14 and the wave-guide block 15. The end of the wave-guide is sealed by a cap 25 with a glass window 26, and has an annular choke groove 28.
