Abstract
633,285. Intermittent toothed gearing. SMITH, F. C. Feb. 16, 1948, No. 4446. [Class 80 (i)] The driving pin 10 of an intermittent drive of the Geneva type is adapted to be moved on the driving wheel 1 to either an operative or inoperative position with respect to the driven member 2 and is acted upon by a spring 12 to move outwardly in a supporting slot 11 but is adapted to be moved inwardly on engagement with a cam surface 29 on a member 3 pivoted on a fixed pivot 23. With the parts in the positions shown the pin 10 is inoperative and no drive is imparted to the driven member 2. If the member 3 is rocked in a clockwise direction by a solenoid or other suitable actuating means an end 31 thereof is engaged by a catch 22 on a fixed pivot 24 to hold it clear of the pin 10 which assumes its outward position under the action of its spring and engages in one of the slots of the member 2 to effect a 90 degree rotation thereof on each revolution of the driving member 1. A cam projection 8 may be provided on the driving member which is adapted to engage and release the catch 22 after a movement of the driven member 2 has been effected. Alternatively an intermediate gear may be provided with a projection to trip the catch 22 and be actuated a tooth at a time by a striker on the driving member so that the driving pin 10 remains operative for a predetermined number of revolutions.
