Abstract

632,531. Winding wire &c. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. July 17, 1947, No. 19155. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1939. [Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] A reel arbor for winding machines comprises a cylindrical portion 20 upon which a reel may be mounted and having a plurality of openings 25, 26, 27 symmetrically spaced radially around the axis of the arbor, reel contactors 30, 31, 32 in said openings and means comprising a rotatable shaft 40 for simultaneously moving said contractors into binding contact with the bore of the reel, means 75, 76 for locking a reel against longitudinal displacement and a friction drive between said locking means and shaft. As shown there are three contactor bars 30, 31, 32 movable radially outwards against springs 60 by the engagement of cam faces 46 on blocks 36, 37 movable by means of the shaft 40, with cam faces 45 on the bars. Latch pieces 75, 76 slide in grooves 77, 78 across the end of the cylindrical portion 20 and are operated by a forked arm 80 having a frictional driving connection with the shaft 40, by means of a spring washer 96 held between collars 90, 94 on said shafts. The angular movement of the arm 80 is limited by stops 110, 111. In operation the contactor bars are retracted by clockwise movement of the shaft 40 and a reel placed over the portion 20. The shaft is then turned counter clockwise, causing the latch pieces 75, 76 to project and the contactor bars to move radially outwards until they firmly engage the bore of the reel. The latch pieces are held extended by centrifugal action during rotation of the spindle which is driven by suitable means applied to a pinion 12.
