Abstract
632,311. Safety devices for ladders. LESTER, S. V. Jan. 13, 1947, No. 1064. [Class 20(ii)] In ladders of the kind having a pair of backwardly inclined arms pivotally attached to the lower portion of the ladder to engage the ground and prevent slipping, the upper end of each arm engages a rung of the ladder so as to limit the pivotal movement of the arms. As shown, the device comprises two hook-like metal arms 12 hinged at 19 to the inside of the ladder-sides 10 and connected together by rods 13, 14. A protecting sheath 23 is screwed to the rung 11. The arms 12 have spikes 22. They may be made in two telescopically adjustable parts.
