Abstract

632,069. Inserting screws. WHEELDON & SONS, Ltd., J., and ARNEY, R. E. Jan. 27, 1948, No. 2384. [Class 83 (iii)] A power-driven screw-driver comprises three screw-driving bits arranged in a straight row, the middle bit being driven by the middle spindle 5 and the two end spindles 4, 6, being driven from the middle spindle by gear-wheels and driving the end bits. The spindles are mounted in a housing 1 and the middle spindle extends through a housing cap 7 for connection to a machine-driving spindle. Screws are fed to the end bits by shoots 31, 32 and to the middle bit by a shoot disposed in a plane perpendicular to the plane containing the shoots 31, 32, the shoots being carried by a bracket 25 having connected thereto rods 49 which are slidable through holes in a plate 24 gripped between the housing 1 and cap 7. Two spring-influenced jaws 43 hold the screws in a downwardly-pointing position ready for engagement by the bits and insertion into the work. Pivoted latches 46 prevent accidental disengagement of the screws from the jaws 43. The bits are detachably connected to the spindles by sleeve couplings. Specification 603,019 is referred to.
