Abstract
631,776. Brazing. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 5, 1947, No. 24465. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1946. [Class 83 (iv)] In a process for brazing brass sheets 20, 22 with brazing material 26 on the joint, a non- fluxing paste comprising a mixture of brass powder, a plasticizer, a wetting agent and water is applied to the exterior of the joint, is dried, and then heated in a furnace in a reducing atmosphere to cause the brazing material to bond the joint and to cause the brass powder in the paste to vaporize the zinc and prevent any increase in the melting point of the brazing material in the joint. The paste may comprise by weight methyl cellulose 1 part, tributyl phosphate 0.83 parts, Aerosol O.T. 0.08 parts, water 25.8 parts, brass powder 74.5 parts.
