[Class 44] A lever handle B, Fig. 1, for door latches is carried in a door plate A provided with a stop a<SP>2</SP> normally engaged by the two crossed projecting legs d of a spring D coiled on the handle operating spindle b and with two further stops a<SP>3</SP> adapted to be engaged on operation of the handle in either direction to limit the movement against the spring. The cylindrical spindle b, Fig. 2, housed in a corresponding bore in a boss a of the plate A, is retained in position by a washer C fitting over a recessed end b<SP>4</SP> of the spindle and a circlip b<SP>2</SP> entering a groove b<SP>5</SP> therein. The upper portion of the washer C rests on an inwardly directed semicircular projection a<SP>4</SP> forming- a recess a<SP>1</SP> housing the spring D which encircles the spindle, the ends d of the spring being bent outwardly to engage on either side of the pin a<SP>2</SP> in the plate A. A lug c at right angles to the plane of the washer c is formed on the latter and lies between the ends d of the spring D. Rotation of the handle B in either direction causes the lug c to move one of the ends d away from the pin a<SP>2</SP>, the rotation being limited by a pair of stops a2 formed in the plate A which are engaged by a projection c<SP>1</SP> on the washer placed diametrically opposite to lug c. Specification 597,382 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specificaticn the spring D is housed in a completely circular recess and the pin a<SP>2</SP> is provided at the centre of an arcuate slot in which the ends d of the spring move when the handle is rotated.
