Abstract
631,326. Coin-freed apparatus. McDONALD, J. A. Sept. 17, 1946, No. 27880. [Class 27] Coin action, electric-connection and multiple-coin; testing coins. A contact arm G is moved over a series of contacts H<SP>1</SP>, H<SP>2</SP> by the current in a circuit completed through an inserted coin or token; certain H<SP>2</SP> of the contacts are connected to the operating solenoids J of associated mechanisms and the remainder H<SP>1</SP> to a reject solenoid N so that predetermined coins of certain resistance cause energisation of the appropriate solenoid J, whilst other or spurious coins are rejected. The inserted coin is received in an aperture B in a slide A and bridges contacts D, D<SP>1</SP> to close the circuit of a galvanometer-type coil F actuating the arm G, turning the arm through an angle dependent on the current passed by the coin determined by its resistance. Whilst the arm is moving, a magnet P moving within a coil Q energises a solenoid R to open contacts I. When the arm comes to rest, contacts I reclose and a circuit is completed through the arm and one of the contacts H<SP>1</SP>, H2. In the case of contacts H<SP>2</SP>, this circuit comprises the appropriate actuating solenoid J and a solenoid K which displaces the slide A to the right to release the coin to the cash box at L. In the case of a contact H<SP>1</SP>, the circuit comprises the reject solenoid N only which moves the slide A to the left to release the defective coin into a rejection chute O.
