Abstract

631,005. Fuel-injection pumps. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd., (International Harvester Co.). April 21, 1947, No. 10564. [Class 102(i)] In a fuel injection pump, the cylinder 16 is rotated and has an outlet 22 that communicates s u c - cessively with delivery passages: 42 having valves 44. During each revolution of the 'cylinder, the plunger 18 reciprocates several 1 times and has an axial bore 49 and radial bore 51 communicating with a groove 48 bounded by an inclined metering edge that co-operates with byepass ports 21 the number of which equals the number of delivery passages; the plunger may be rotated to vary the delivery. The end of each delivery stroke is determined by the metering edge uncovering a byepass port, and the byepass ports come into operation successively. The byepass chamber is eccentric to the cylinder 16 and edge 57 contacts the cylinder to seal the byepass adjacent to the byepass port with which the metering edge is intended to co-operate and thus prevent interference with the control. In the construction described, the pump supplies four delivery passages and has four byepass ports and four lobes to the cam and the cylinder is rotated by gearing including a shaft parallel to the pump plunger.
