[Class 28(ii)] In a slicing-machine of the type having a rotatable circular knife 1 and an adjustable gauge 9 supported by guides parallel to the knife for regulating the thickness of slice, the knife and gauge are supported in such a manner that a free slice receiving space is left extending below the knife and gauge to both sides of the cutting plane, the effective length of the gauge and the cutting arc of the knife overhanging the free space. The side 6 of the base over which the substance carrier 8 moves forward with an opening 16 through which the slice receiving plate 15 may extend. The free space facilitates the collection of scraps in the plate 15 and prevents fouling of the machine.
