[Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] In a reversible hydraulic motor comprising stationary cylinders fitted with reciprocating pistons 12, balance of a rotary distributing valve 17 operating in a chamber 11 having external inlet and outlet connections 31, 32 and cylinder communicating ports 10, is effected by forming the valve 17 with two pairs of longitudinal passages 21, 21 and 22, 22, Fig. 6, to connect the inlet and outlet 31, 32 with the ports 10 in proper sequence ; the passages of each pair being in communication with and arranged in equal angular relation relative to each other by diametrical ports 27 and 28, Fig. 7, whereby pressure in either or any passage of a pair is transmitted to the other passage or passages of a pair. The pistons 12 are actuated by eccentrics 13 mounted on a driving shaft 14, and the valve 17 is rotated through gearing 20, 19, 18. Leakage from the valve 17 is conducted from a space 33 through conduits 35, 36 to a chamber 37 connected at 39 to a make-up tank. When used as a unidirectional motor the valve 17 may be stopped short of the suction inlet, say 31, and the passages 22, 22 which are normally plugged and connected by the port 28 may open directly to the space 33.
