[Class 100 (ii)] A holder for type, dies, blocks or the like comprises members moving in mutual association to secure the type by converging upon it from at least two directions at right-angles. A spindle 5, Figs. 1 and 4, with a knurled knob 9, passes through horizontal slots 6, 7 in a U-shaped member 4, and has oppositely threaded portions 10, 11 engaging nuts 12, 13, each having two lugs 14 engaging in diagonal slots 15 in a pair of U-shaped slides 16 and in longitudinal slots 17 in two flat slides 18. The U-shaped member 4 covers the ends and top of a channelmember 1 in which the slides move, and is cut away at 3 to allow insertion of type. Rotation of the spindle causes the nuts and slides 16 to move together or apart. If the slides 16 are prevented from moving by engaging type between them, slides 18 move laterally, the spindle sliding in the slots 6, 7, and force the type against a wall 19 of the member 1, while if the type is first gripped between the wall 19 and slides 18, the slides 16 continue to approach each other and grip the type between them. The holder may be of heat-withstanding material for use in embossing and like processes and may be for machine or manual use, for which latter a handle may be attached thereto. The spindle may have threads of wide pitch and be provided with a multiple or multi-start thread. According to the Provisional Specification, one or more of the flanges of the slides 16 may be partly slit to take up play between the slides and the member 1, and the spindle may have a knob 9 at each end.
